SERVICE POLICY
COMMUNICATION THERAPY SERVICES
Tri-Counties Regional Center may authorize funding for specialized communication therapy services as recommended by the Planning Team when the need is directly related to, or is the direct result of, a developmental disability and all generic and private resources, including private medical insurance, deny a necessary specialized health care.
The Planning Team must determine there is a reasonable expectation, based on medical, psychological, audiological, or speech and language assessment that the proposed intervention is clinically indicated and will result in significantly improved communication skills for the consumer. The Planning Team must also establish measurable objectives and time lines for progress expected to result from the provision of communication therapy service.
For individuals receiving early intervention services, consumers in public school programs and consumers who reside in health care facilities, communication therapy services are expected to be provided as part of the individual’s program, rather than as a separately funded service.
Tri-Counties Regional Center will advocate for and work with consumers and their family members to ensure that generic and private service providers discharge their obligations to meet the needs of persons with developmental disabilities.
If a generic or private resource initially denies a required communication therapy service that Tri-Counties Regional Center has determined to be their responsibility, that denial will be appealed.
